bookworm

I was thinking that I miss reading.

I commit to spending less time on the computer and more time with my head in a book.

Books used to be how I spent most of my leisure time.

I used to receive more books than anything else for birthdays and Christmas until I got "into" clothes (probably grade 9?) and started asking for that instead.

I am looking for a good book. Or books! What books have you loved? Laughed over? Wept into?

I've got a few recommendations and I'm ready to pay off my library fines so I can actually take out books again. :)

Anything else I should consider? (I probably won't get around to most of these until March, but sometimes it's fun to plan ahead!)

  2. I'm super into adventure books, I have the whole Narnia series in one massive book (with pictures hehe) as well as the Curse of treasure island and the legend of Zorro...fun fantasy ones filled with adventure, if you're into that kinda thing :)

  3. You can borrow without fines, the Yada Yada series from Lois! you'll love them, they're so real and just like any group of women who meet (altho their ages are generally about 10 yrs older than yours). However, they'll make you laugh and cry as you get to know them....so good!
Angela Hunt and Francine Rivers are both incredibly good biblical, action packed (sometimes thrill) authors!..yay for Church libraries!

  5. Thanks for all the responses!
Right now I am looking for well crafted fictional stories. I've got my hands full with practical and non-fiction right now and am looking for ways to unwind that DO NOT involve sitting in front of a screen.
    Some favourites of mine:
Christian ones I loved were by Francine Rivers (Redeeming Love, Mark of the Lion series) and Karen Kingsbury (The Redemption Series).
Other books I have loved are Haroun & the Sea of Stories, Lord of the Rings, I do like to read chick lit every now and then...um..., Still Alice, Peace Like A River was good...
I'm looking for a good read, something that may even move me.
Today I took out (and paid my library fines) Night (by Elie Weisel) and Free Range Kids (by Lenore Skenazy). So we'll see how those 2 do me. :)

  6. I agree with Karen, 3 Cups Of Tea is a great read. I hit that one up in Colorado this summer and then passed it around to different staff who all loved it.

It depends on what you're looking for.

As far as Spiritual Growth, I'm reading:
John Calvin: A Heart for Devotion, Doctrine & Doxology, and Eternity In Their Hearts (about tribes who are primed for the Gospel)

As far as Fun Reading, (what else do you call it?) I'm reading:
The Arabs: Journey Beyond The Mirage, and just finished Something Blue.

  8. Yes, the Yada Yada series is a great read a great way to unwind. If you want the continuation of the Redemption series Jeanine has it and we can get that from her.
And yes there would be no late fines if these books were not read as quickly as you thought!!
